How to create a Meaningful life Ministry

Creating your own meaningful life ministry

What a week is has been in the world. So much worry, grief, and sadness. My mind has been entirely consumed by it. How could this happen and what could have stopped it? Truthfully the only answer I could think of is ministry. If there was more ministry, would the world look like it does at moment? Then that lead me to more questions. Like, what is ministry? What does it mean to create your own meaningful life ministry?

What is ministry?

Ministry is way more than just preaching. I think it is so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that ministry is reserved for the ordained. We need to remember this verse:

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

Matthew 28:19-20a

God had Matthew note this command from Jesus for a reason. We are meant to touch everyone around us with the gospel of Jesus. There’s so much honor in going out as the disciples and Jesus did bringing the word to everyone around them. In the modern world, this is what we think about making disciples. We think about people going to mission trips, travelling the world, doing great acts and proclaiming the name of Jesus. It’s noble and necessary that fellow saints go out into the unknown and make disciples of the people they meet, but there are so many people here at home that don’t know. How will your family know if you don’t tell them? People fail to realize that going out in the world is not the only way for meaningful ministry.

Discipling starts with you. Think about all of the people you interact with everyday. How many people can you bring the gospel to each and everyday? You enrich your faith with your spouse. You get ready and interact with your coworkers all day long and see friends in the evening. Just one interaction with someone can effect someone so much.

Better yet, think about Jesus’s ministry. Think about all of the people saved purely by His interactions with them. I always think about the woman at the well. He knew her. He knew her life and her sins. Through that He changed her and her life. She went on to tell everyone about their interaction and it led to so many Samaritans believing in Jesus. It’s a domino effect. Leading one leads to two, then three, then four. What if the person you take a chance on becomes a minister? The amount of that chain reaction could be countless.

It makes me think about when I was a kid. There I was in a small group in 4th grade science class. I was the insufferable know-it-all kind of student. If the book said it, I believed it as fact and would spout it out on command. Another girl in my class was smart, but would stay firm to her beliefs. So when it came to the topic of evolution, we hit a deadlock in discussion. I said whatever I needed to to get the grades, but I had no resolve. She was right all along, of course. I didn’t realize that this was the start of a series of events that led to me coming back to God when I abandoned Him. You never realize how persistent God is to saving you.

How do you make a meaningful ministry?

This all led me to having deeper discussion with my husband and deeper thoughts about what a personal meaningful ministry is and how it is curated. What are my goals for furthering the word of God? What does that look like in my day-to-day life? How can I develop meaningful ministry in areas of my life?

I’ve come up with some areas in life that you can curate your meaningful ministry:

Friends

One meaningful way to connect with people and spread the word is to start with your friends. If you have friends that are believers, work on strengthening your faith with each other! Host a Bible study night and encourage them to bring other friends. Be accountability partners for reading the Bible, daily prayer, or church attendance. Allow yourself to enrich your friends with your faith and allow them to enrich you.

Another aspect is if you have friends that are non-believers. I know there is guidance about not being around someone unequally yoked, but if there is an opportunity, you can allow them to see glimpses of God through you and open them up to the idea of God. This could allow them to accept Him into their life.

Co-Workers

Work life is such a large part of your day-to-day. Think of it, you spend 8+ hours of your day everyday with people that could not know the glory of God. There are a lot of ways to go about it, but the easiest ways are to have conversations and be an example. Let the Spirit guide your day-to-day actions. Show people God through your character. You don’t always realize it, but your co-workers are paying attention not only to your attitude, but to your actions and work ethic. Be an example to them. If they ask how you do it? One simple answer: God.

Family

Another way is spreading the word to the people closest to you. This can be your parents, your aunts and uncles, your grandparents, cousins, etc. Have meaningful conversations with them and invite them to church. You want to be able to see them at the end of times, so be bold in your faith and do what you can to get them there. I highly encourage other tips from before and to be intentional with your actions. Devote time to prayer for advice.

Children

A huge way to grow a meaningful ministry is by ministering to your children. You are their teacher for life. Incorporate thoughtful habits into everyone’s routine that allows your children to grow with God. Children nowadays are faced with so many issues that we did not face growing up. It’s important that they learn about God and how to seek refuge and answers in the Bible. This will allow them to navigate this world in a way that is God-honoring.

Talents

Use your talents! Good at writing? Start a blog, write a devotional or a book. Social media savvy? Use your platform to bring God into the conversation. Maybe you’re an artist or a musician? Create art dedicated to worship. Have fun developing the gifts God gave you to further His reach. Serving Him is always the b best path.
